The IWRG Intercontinental Welterweight Championship (''Campeonato Intercontinental Welter IWRG'' in Spanish) is a professional wrestling championship promoted by the Mexican wrestling promotion International Wrestling Revolution Group (IWRG) since 1998. The official definition of the Welterweight weight class in Mexico is between and , but the weight limits are not always strictly adhered to.〔One example the weightlimits not being strictly enforced is Mephisto winning the CMLL World Welterweight Championship, a championship with a upper limit despite weighing .〕 Because Lucha Libre puts more emphasis on the lower weightclasses, this division is considered more important than the normally more prestigious heavyweight division of the promotion. Being a professional wrestling championship, it is not won legitimately: it is instead won via a scripted ending to a match or awarded to a wrestler because of a storyline. The first Welterweight champion was Dr. Cerebro, winning the title on March 1, 1998 in a tournament final against Shiima Nobunaga.〔 Golden Magic is the current champion, having defeated Canis Lupus in Naucalpan, México on December, 2013, to win the title. He is the 32nd overall champion. 16 individuals have held the Champions with Cerebro Negro being the person with most title reigns, fives. Cerebro Negro is also the individual to have the shortest reign, seven days while Dr. Cerebro has had the longest individual reign at 788 days. ==Title history== ;Key
